Welcome to our home on the web! St. James Presbyterian is a growing congregation dedicated to glorifying and enjoying God, and the many blessings He has given us. Our congregation was established in the early 1960's in order to serve the western end of Chatham, a small town in southwestern Ontario. And now, well into the third millenium, we are moving forward with a bold plan to make Christ accessible in ways that speak to the world that exists today, rather than the one we knew when this congregation was first established. That why we've made some radical changes not only in way we do things at St. James, but within the facility itself.

We have always had a great facility, with a beautiful, fully accessible sanctuary. Now we've revamped our worship space to make it much more versatile and usable. The choir loft and pulpit have now been converted into a large flat space, with broad stairs that can serve as risers when needed. This will allow us to use and combine both traditional and contemporary elements within our worship, thus helping us to make Christ accessible to a much wider variety of people. This is a vital change in these days in which older forms of worship simply don't speak to modern ears. With a reconfigured sanctuary we hope to address this issue in an effective, respectful way that honours God and reflects our committment, to spread His Good News. As part of the Presbyterian Church in Canada, we realize that we are reformed and constantly reforming, so we've taken yet one more step forward by introducing a second, fully contemporary, worship service. This worship style is geared for folks with little or no church experience, along with those who simply don't find traditional worship fulfilling. Using up to date multi-media technology, a live band and imaginative dramatic techniques, we hope to reach folks who would like a new and different way to know about God. We also would like to explore the possibilities offered by telling God's stories without being limited by the "we've always done it that way" syndrome. While we are part of the reformed tradition, St. James isn't just about innovation so we still offer a traditional service, recognizing the beauty and majesty of the 'old-school' liturgy.

Of course, a good worship space is important, and is definitely one of St. James' assets, but our greatest strength is our people. We have a great time together worshiping and serving our community, and we truly enjoy each other's company doing so. With a strong music programme that includes traditional, contemporary and children's components, a fine Sunday School, and an excellent pastoral visitation team, we are well equipped to reach out to our community in God's name.

Our Contemporary worship service starts at 9am Sunday morning, while the Traditional service begins at 10:30am and there's a coffee chat time in between the two services.

Feel free to drop in if you're in the neighbourhood; we'd love to have you worship along with us!
