The official resolution will use the theme of "Migration and Europe", however it will be a specific statement that will allow for strong arguments to be formed on both sides, that is to say in favour of, and in opposition to. For example, if the theme was "Education and Scandinavia", the resolution may focus on a particular policy and country, e.g. "Be it resolved that Sweden should implement tuition fees for students". Official Resolution: Click here for an article related to this topic. This article should be used as a starting point only :-). SHOW ROUND! So you've never seen a debate before? Or maybe you have and just want to check it out anyways. All participants are encouraged to come out! Show round to be held at 18.15 on 7 March 2007 in the Amnesty International office in Lund (Östra Vallgatan 61). SPECIFICS AND DETAILS Please download the Participant Guide. This guide contains information about the structure of the competition/each round, researching the topic, writing your speeches, official rules of the debate, and judging criteria. COMPETITION LOCATION AND SCHEDULE Please download the Final Schedule. HOW MANY PEOPLE WILL I DEBATE IN FRONT OF? The two preliminary rounds will be closed rounds, that is to say that it will just be your team, the opposing team, a time keeper, and a judge. The semi-final and final rounds will be open rounds, meaning that all participants, judges, and other volunteers are free to watch. CAN I BRING MY FAMILY/FRIENDS TO WATCH ME DEBATE? You are free to bring family/friends to watch the open rounds only (semi-final and final). The two preliminary rounds are closed. WHAT SHOULD I WEAR? There is no official dress code, but we encourage "smart casual" attire, e.g. dress pants/skirt, nice shirt, optional jacket. We also encourage all participants who have traditional clothes from their home country to wear them! I'M NERVOUS! Don't be! Everyone else is too :-) This event is a means to create a dialogue between people on the topic of human rights in an international context. We want participants to enjoy themselves, so don't get worried! I STILL HAVE MORE QUESTIONS! If you still have questions please do not hesitate to contact us! |
